Exclusive: Sergio Perez reveals key past lesson integral to Cadillac F1 rise

Sergio Perez has driven brilliantly for Cadillac so far this season, where he is making the most of things he has learnt over the years.

Sergio Perez has revealed that a key past lesson of "not giving up and patience" has been integral to the start of his time at Formula 1's newest outfit, Cadillac.

The Mexican driver joined Cadillac for the start of its F1 journey following a year out of the sport in 2025, after parting ways with Red Bull.

Being part of a team starting from scratch is a real challenge for any driver, particularly when it is not just the car that needs improving.

Everything both inside and outside the car at the American outfit is being constantly improved, with nothing currently at the highest level in F1 terms.

Asked if any area within Cadillac is near the top, Perez told RacingNews365 during an exclusive interview: "I think it's hard to mention an area that we are close to the top.

"You know, we are only [halfway through the first season] in our history, so I think there's a lot of room for improvement in each department, a lot of development to do, and we're working towards it.

"I think it's something that we're going to find soon. Things are moving along quickly."

Cadillac is the only team on the grid without a point so far this season, although much of its focus this year has been on improvement and taking on board feedback from the experience of Perez and teammate Valtteri Bottas.

Discussing whether Cadillac has listened to himself and Bottas, Perez replied: "Yeah, definitely. I think they really take into consideration our comments, how we feel about it, about them, and yeah, they're good."

Perez utilising crucial lessons

Patience and not giving up have, in many respects, been the story of Perez's career in F1, having so often found himself waiting for the machinery to be in the right window to attack.

At Red Bull, both attributes were also needed alongside Max Verstappen, with the same now being required at Cadillac, albeit in a different way.

Looking into whether any past lessons can be implemented at Cadillac, the veteran explained: "I think not giving up and patience. Never give up and patience.

"I need a lot of that in here, because there are times where you're working really hard together with your team, and then you have all these problems, it can be very frustrating at times.

"But at the same time, it's very encouraging to see the team pushing so hard."
