Daytona weekend kickstarts with huge crash

What a way to start one of the biggest motorsport weekends of the year!

The 24 Hours of Daytona weekend is always one of the highlights of the motorsport calendar for all concerned.

Even for those in the support series, it is always on occasion to savour, although for many drivers in the second race of the Mazda MX-5 Cup, their moment in the spotlight was shortlived.

It is not the first time there have been major incidents in the series at Daytona as there was a major crash in the second race of last year's event, and again in 2022.

On this occasion, however, the green flag had only just been shown for the 45-minute race containing a record entry of 36 cars when chaos ensued at the front of the pack involving Alex Bachoura and Gresham Wagner that caused a domino effect down the pack and wiped out half the field.

You can watch the mayhem unfold here!
