Williams has released an update on Franco Colapinto's condition following his massive crash during qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Colapinto hit the inside wall at Turn 16 towards the end of Q2 which broke his steering and sent him into the opposite wall at high speed.

The Argentine driver was able to climb out of the car and went for a check-up by the on-site medical officials.

However, Williams has cast doubt over Colapinto's participation in the grand prix, outlining his health as the key priority regarding a final decision.

The 21-year-old is set to be reevaluated ahead of the Saturday night race, which will determine if he can partake in the grand prix or not.

“During qualifying Franco sustained a significant impact of over 50G, requiring a medical check up,” read a Williams statement.

“An impact of this magnitude is obviously significant and severe and he will need to be evaluated again tomorrow before we will know whether he is clear to race.

“Franco’s health is all that matters and we are glad he is otherwise okay. We will provide further updates when we can.”

The crash was the sixth major incident for Williams in the last three race weekends.
