Charles Leclerc calls for Ferrari deep dive after Monza qualifying scare

Charles Leclerc has called for Ferrari to conduct a deep dive into why he suffered an energy management issue during qualifying at the Italian Grand Prix.

Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton both found themselves on the verge of being eliminated during the second part of qualifying at Monza, but managed to narrowly progress to the top-10 shootout.

Ferrari had shown promising pace across all three practice sessions, but Leclerc, in particular, looked weaker on Saturday than he had on Friday.

However, after his Q2 scare, Leclerc suddenly found great pace and became an outsider for pole, ultimately having to settle for third on the grid.

Despite this, suffering an energy management issue was the last thing the Monegasque needed, with him wanting an answer as to how it happened.

Asked what problems Ferrari faced during qualifying, Leclerc told select media, including RacingNews365: "It was more related to the energy management, and this is something we'll have to look at because we didn't have any of those issues coming before qualifying, and so to start dealing with them during qualifying is not ideal."

The energy management problem made for a nervous Q2 for Leclerc, as the driver failed to improve his lap time despite having new tyres. His opening lap was set on an old set of softs.

Discussing the end of Q2 being nerve-wracking, Leclerc explained: "Yeah, particularly because I started my last lap in Q2 with the new tyres, where the biggest problem on the battery was, and so my lap time was nowhere. 

"So I was kind of hoping that the first lap time would get me through, which it did. But yeah, it wasn't so nice to be in this position, especially here in Monza."
