Cadillac F1 appears poised to unveil a new driver as early as Monday, 5th January, with the American marque dropping a series of increasingly suggestive hints across its social media channels.
A recent post in particular has caught the attention of the F1 paddock. The image features a pair of feline eyes, while a closer inspection reveals a subtly embedded Cadillac logo accompanied by the number 24 — or at least the suggestion of one. When discussions turn to race numbers and feline symbolism, one name quickly rises to the surface: Zhou Guanyu, a well-known cat enthusiast.
Further fuelling speculation, Ferrari recently announced its farewell to Zhou, who served as a reserve driver for the Scuderia in 2025, via social media.
Zhou, who raced for Alfa Romeo-Sauber between 2022 and 2024, made history as the first Chinese driver to compete in Formula 1, a factor that would be highly attractive from a commercial and global growth perspective for a brand like Cadillac.
There may even be visual clues pointing to Zhou’s involvement already. Observers have noted that a promotional image released by Cadillac on 9 December appears to have had a figure rather conspicuously edited out.
The question now being asked is whether Zhou was quite literally removed from the frame to preserve the surprise.
If so, the pieces are rapidly falling into place. Cadillac’s cryptic campaign, Ferrari’s timing, and Zhou’s availability all point in the same direction. Confirmation may not be far away — and if the hints are to be believed, the mystery could be resolved tomorrow.
