Jenson Button is back at Williams for the 2021 season in an advisory role, and thanks to Simon Roberts and Jost Capito, we now know a little bit more about how he will assist the historic team. The 2009 F1 world champion has the role of senior advisor, though it was previously unclear just how central a role he would play in the day-to-day functioning of the team. Button continues to race in various motorsport series, but of late he has also made significant strides outside of the cockpit. The new role at Williams is his first working in an advisory capacity and comes after a spell as a pundit for Sky Sports F1 last year. "Because of the COVID situation, Jenson hasn't been able to get over here [to the UK] yet", Simon Roberts, Williams team principal told RacingNews365.com and members of the media. "Obviously, we've been talking to him. He's supporting us in many ways, just from a business point of view, supporting the board and the business management team. "Once we get racing he can come in and help. One of his ex-race engineers is with us so it's a really good relationship", Roberts continued. While Button does lack experience of working for a team as a senior management figure, he will bring a wealth of on-track experience to the team that can be passed on whenever required. The Brit made his F1 debut with Williams in the year 2000, racing in every season after that until his unofficial retirement in 2017. "We're really looking forward to getting him into the garage, getting him the details, and just doing what he does best - talking to us, being a soundboard for ideas and sharing his experiences", Roberts concluded. New Williams CEO Jost Capito was just as glowing about the former Brawn GP man. Capito worked with Jenson while they were both at McLaren, and the German is looking forward to rekindling that friendship. "It's great to have him in the team, just to have a chat. You can have a second view", Capito asserts. "He is very professional, he's been a world champion, he has done different race series - and he has been an expert in racing throughout. It's great to have a sparring partner like him".
