The start of the 2025 F1 Belgian Grand Prix has been delayed as heavy rain has battered Spa.
Following the cancellation of the F3 feature race earlier in the day, the F2 race proceeded as normal as conditions improved towards mid-afternoon.
However, in the hour before the planned 1500 local, 1400 BST start, two huge rain cells began to move in from the West, approaching La Source and the pit-straight first.
The formation lap got underway on-time, however it was quickly apparent that visibility was an issue.
Lando Norris, who starts the race from pole position, highlighted that even he could not see very much despite only having the spray from the safety car in front of him.
The FIA communicated that “most drivers have reported poor visibility during the formation lap”.
In the interest of safety, the planned start of the 44-lap race has therefore been delayed indefinitely until conditions improve.
