Binotto: Ferrari have the best driver pairing in Formula 1

Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto believes his driver pairing of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are unrivalled by any other duo on the grid.

Mattia Binotto believes the signing of Carlos Sainz for 2021 has made Ferrari's line-up of the Spaniard alongside Charles Leclerc the best on the grid. While Ferrari usually sign experienced champions to their team, the Sainz/Leclerc line-up is particularly unusual for the Scuderia given that, between them, there's only two Grand Prix wins – both courtesy of Leclerc in 2019. "I think we've got the best line-up in the grid," Binotto told select members of the media, including RacingNews365.com . "That's my personal judgement. They are both very young, which is great because somehow, as we said, we are trying to create solid foundations for the future. So having young drivers, that's important but they are already experienced. "I think that Charles is doing very well, he's still progressing. He's got a high potential, and I think he has not achieved yet his best and he shows that he is still progressing. "Carlos has integrated very well into the team and I think that really, in terms of drivers integrations, drivers need to gel in terms of mood, integration with the racetrack engineers, back to Maranello." With Ferrari's performances this year a step closer to what would usually be expected from Formula 1's most successful team, Binotto said the experience of racing away from the front sets the pair up for success when the team produce a title-contending machine again. "I have to say that it's working very well. And that's showing the great potential, and potential which I'm pretty sure there is still much to come," Binotto said. "So I think we've got great drivers, they're both doing well in terms of championship points this year, I think they've got almost the same points. "I think I've already said that, in order to win a Constructor's title, you need both drivers to perform well. And I think this year is showing we've got two solid drivers, two solid racers, and I'm pretty sure that by the time they will have the right car, both of them can do very well."
