Mercedes and Ferrari have pulled ahead of McLaren and Red Bull in the F1 pecking order - with the MCL40 and RB22 machines not as quick as the W17 and SF-26.
But with the regulations still immature, there is great scope for teams to out-develop each other and take giant leaps forward.
As of the British Grand Prix, Mercedes leads the standings on 333 points, 78 ahead of Ferrari on 255.
McLaren is third on 179 points, ahead of Red Bull on just 128, leaving the Milton Keynes squad 205 behind Mercedes.
But are both teams fully out of the title race, given the scope of upgrades and the potential they hold?
