Fernando Alonso's Chinese Grand Prix lasted just four laps as the Aston Martin driver was forced into early retirement.
The Spaniard started the race from 13th on the grid and made a clean start by progressing up to 12th.
However, it soon became obvious that Aloso was suffering from an issue as smoke could be seen billowing from the right rear of the car.
Pierre Gasly flagged the concern as he ran behind Alonso before the 43-year-old pulled to one side.
Alonso then reported over the team radio that he could not brake as then returned to the pit lane at slow speed to retire the car.
It marks Alonso's second race retirement around the Shanghai International Circuit as he also failed to finish in the 2017 race.
