Alfa Romeo wants to see Zhou Guanyu improve his weekend "approach" and maximise his potential throughout a Formula 1 weekend.

The Chinese driver had his contract renewed with the outfit until the end of the 2024 season alongside Valtteri Bottas, as the team enters a transitional period before it is taken over by Audi.

The team has endured a tough campaign so far in 2023 and currently sits ninth in the Constructors' Championship, just five points ahead of AlphaTauri.

Zhou has finished in the points on two occasions so far at the Australian and Spanish Grands Prix, but the team believes there is more potential on offer if he can improve one key area.

Alunni Bravi: We want him to be more aggressive

When asked about where he has improved compared to his rookie season, team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi told media, including RacingNews365: "I think that we have seen in Qualifying, being able to match Valtteri’s performance on several occasions.

"He [Zhou] still needs to improve the approach to the weekend because we want him to be more aggressive from lap one in the FP1 session, and so to really maximise all his potential throughout the weekend.

"Of course we need to be more consistent from circuit to circuit – but we need to help him, because our car also has not been so consistent this year.

"We need to work hard together to improve every area, and to improve as a team, and also on the drivers’ side."
