Albon ready to take on lead role to help Sargeant at Williams

With Logan Sargeant all but confirmed to join Williams in 2023, Alex Albon expects to play a role in supporting the rookie driver.

Alex Albon believes it is "inevitable" that he will take on a leading role and offer support to Logan Sargeant ahead of the rookie's expected arrival at Williams. Sargeant – who made his F1 weekend debut by taking part in Free Practice 1 at the United States and Mexican Grands Prix – has been all but confirmed to join the squd in 2023 should he earn enough superlicence points. The American currently has 28 of the 40 superlicence points required to be permitted to race in Formula 1 next season. As things stand, Sargeant needs a minimum of fifth place in the F2 Drivers' standings to obtain a superlicence. He currently holds third.

Albon expects help for Sargeant to increase

Albon has started to build a leadership position at Williams since joining the team for the 2022 season, with the British-Thai driver having outperformed teammate Nicholas Latifi, who will leave the outfit at the end of the campaign. When speaking to media over the Mexican Grand Prix, RacingNews365.com asked Albon how much involvement he had had with Sargeant's recent work for the team. "Not too much. Not at the moment," Albon explained. "[I've been] helping him just in his FP1 stuff, but I'm sure that will increase."

Albon ready to offer expertise

In regards to how he feels about sharing his knowledge with Sargeant, Albon admitted that it is a common process for teammates and something he has experienced himself in the past. "I think it's inevitable, with just how you talk, with how you explain the car," the former Red Bull driver said. "I did the same when I was teammates with Daniil Kvyat and Max [Verstappen]. You just learn from the normal talk."
