Alex Albon was disqualified from Williams' charity sim race used to fill the void created by the cancellation of the Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The event was streamed on Twitch, with all proceeds donated to the Emilia Romagna Flood Relief Effort following the tragic scenes in the Italian region that forced F1 to call off the planned race at Imola. Williams' race was set at 25 percent distance and mirrored the events used during the Covid pandemic, with esports racers joined by guest drivers. Albon was joined by Williams Team Principal James Vowles as well as the team's dedicated sim racers, with Shanaka Clay emerging victorious. Mercedes also participated with James Baldwin and Bono Huis representing the Silver Arrows, whilst Real Madrid and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois joining the action. Albon failed to reach the end of the race having been disqualified for ignoring blue flags, with Vowles also penalised. The former Mercedes Strategy Director ended the event 10th. F1 cancelled its return to Imola earlier in the week after extensive rainfall led to flooding and landslides in the surrounding region.
