Alex Albon has detailed that the arrival of Carlos Sainz at Williams has reminded him of his exit from Red Bull.
Albon raced for Red Bull from the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix, until the end of the 2020 F1 season. He was replaced by Sergio Perez and was left without a seat on the grid the following year.
He spent 2021 racing in DTM whilst filling the reserve driver role at both Red Bull and AlphaTauri, before signing for Williams for the 2022 season.
It was not until the end of his first campaign with Williams that he officially ended his association with the Austrian outfit, although Sainz's arrival from Ferrari has brought memories of his old team back.
Having raced for a lead team the last four seasons, Sainz has joined Williams and has immediately been informing the team where it can improve the FW47.
Understandably, Sainz has discovered huge differences at Williams based on what he was used to at Ferrari, something Albon can relate to.
According to Albon, the feedback Sainz has been giving the Grove-based team has brought up his Red Bull exit memories, due to also remembering what it was like getting used to a midfield car after racing for a lead outfit.
"I think that he's [Sainz] got a lot of experience, and he's very good at communicating what he feels in the car and the directions that he feels the car needs to go in," Albon told select media including RacingNews365.
"I think in many ways, it reminds me a little bit like my time at Red Bull [and then] coming here. You kind of understand and you feel what your car did before and where immediately the car that you're driving now is missing.
"And even [during testing], I think he's been able to kind of understand that and get the car into a pretty good place. I think he's got up to speed, relatively comfortable with the car, but it's good.
"We're talking the same language, we have the same feedback. Team are doing well. We're responding well to solutions and whatnot. So far so good."
