Kimi Antonelli topped the only free practice session at the Dutch Grand Prix, beating Lando Norris by just under one-and-a-half tenths of a second around the twists and turns of Zandvoort.
George Russell and Lewis Hamilton went third and fourth quickest, with Charles Leclerc rounding out the top five in the sole hour of preparation for the final weekend in the sand dunes of North Holland.
Numerous drivers had off-track moments, kicking up gravel onto the circuit, including Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen and Hamilton.
Antonelli had a spin, but remained on the tarmac, completing a satisfying 360-degree pirouette in a relatively quiet session.
Liam Lawson impressed on his return to Red Bull, quickly on the pace and looking comfortable in the cockpit of the RB22.
Newly extended Verstappen, on the other side of the garage, was less pleased, complaining that he was almost in the wall because of the "ridiculous" downshifts, an issue that has plagued the Dutchman this season.
Yuki Tsunoda, on his return to track action, also looked on the early pace, keeping Arvid Lindblad close company in the sister Racing Bulls machine for much of the session before dropping off and finishing P17.
