Lando Norris has ended the sole practice session from the Shanghai International Circuit as the fastest driver.
The Briton left it late to move to the top spot, improving on his second run on the soft compound.
Norris was a mammoth four-tenths of a second ahead of Charles Leclerc in second place while team-mate Oscar Piastri was third fastest.
One red flag was called during the one-hour session after Jack Doohan stopped on the track, reporting a loss of power steering.
