McLaren controversially claimed the award for the fastest pit stop of the 2025 F1 season, set during the Italian Grand Prix while servicing Oscar Piastri.

The Italian GP proved to be a major moment in the championship, as McLaren controversially instructed Piastri to give up position in the closing laps to Lando Norris.

Despite Norris running second and Piastri third, it was the Australian who was pitted first by the team, producing a staggering 1.91s stop — the fastest of the season.

When Norris pitted a lap later, it was a slow 5.87s stop, causing the Briton to rejoin the circuit behind his team-mate.

Remarkably, the team order for Piastri to fall back behind his team-mate quickly followed, a decision that ultimately secured Norris the drivers’ title over Max Verstappen, who won at Monza.

McLaren set the three fastest pit stops of 2025, with identical 1.94s stops performed for both of its drivers in Hungary. Red Bull locked out fourth to sixth, while Ferrari’s three quickest pit stops ranked seventh, eighth, and ninth fastest this year.

With a 2.02s stop for Alex Albon in the Abu Dhabi season finale, Williams completed the top 10 fastest pit stops of 2025.

Pit stop horror

As for the 10 slowest pit stops this year, the top two positions were dominated by Haas. Much to Oliver Bearman’s horror, the Briton was the victim of the two slowest pit stops of 2025.

He was stationary for a shocking 29.04s during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, before suffering a 28.5s stop a week later in Monaco.

Haas’ pit stop horror for Bearman in Imola and Monaco was over 10 seconds slower than the third-worst pit stop of the year — an unwanted position secured by Ferrari.

At the São Paulo Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton had to endure an 18.54s pit stop. Remarkably, Yuki Tsunoda’s worst pit stop of the season actually came in his final race for Racing Bulls, with a 17.69s stop occurring in China.

Unfortunately for Albon, in addition to experiencing the 10th-fastest stop of the year, he also had to put up with the fifth slowest, after Williams took 16.94s to service him in Spain.
