Charles Leclerc spearheaded a Ferrari one-two on an off-day for F1 title protagonists Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
From fourth on the grid, Leclerc took full advantage of a Turn 1 duel between polesitter Norris and second-on-the-grid Verstappen to lead going down the hill, from which point he enjoyed a consummate drive to his third victory of the season and eighth of his F1 career.
In finishing runner-up, Sainz enjoyed his second-best result of the season following his early win in Australia, leaving Verstappen and Norris to endure a pulsating scrap over the minor podium placing over the final 10 laps, with the Briton going on to take third at the chequered flag.
However, he was handed a five-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage with a pass on Verstappen on lap 52 of 56, meaning the three-time F1 champion claimed third, with Norris fourth.
Results are provisional.
