Lando Norris led the way in FP1 for the Spanish Grand Prix, ahead of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya.
The McLaren set a lap time of 1:14.228, with the Red Bull just +0.024 behind. The Ferrari was over three-tenths of a second back, with the Spanish driver setting his best time on medium tyres at his home race.
It was a quiet session with a momentary red flag disruption after debris was found in the middle of the track in the second sector.
Whilst media day saw bad weather, with rain at the circuit, the first day of track running has been completely dry - and hot.
Due to the high temperatures, drivers were finding their Pirellis were not holding on as long as anticipated. There was a mix of high and low fuel runs, with drivers split between using fresh compounds after the red flag stoppage and continuing on scrubbed sets.
