Reigning world champion Max Verstappen has ended the opening practice session of this weekend's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix at the top of the timesheets, courtesy of setting a 1:29.659s.

The second round of the 2024 season got underway on Thursday afternoon at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit with 60 minutes of running ahead of the important second practice session in the evening.

Behind Verstappen was Fernando Alonso, who was just under two-tenths of a second slower than the Dutchman. Last year's Saudi Arabian GP winner Sergio Perez set the third quickest time.

Completing the top five was George Russell and Charles Leclerc, whilst seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was down in eighth.
