Charles Leclerc secured a fourth-consecutive pole position in Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, heading off McLaren's Oscar Piastri and team-mate Carlos Sainz.

Sergio Perez and George Russell were fourth and fifth fastest, respectively. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton had to settle for sixth and seventh place.

There was a bizarre incident in Q3, when the airbox cooler was left on Alex Albon's FW46 as he left the pit lane.

The 28-year-old was able to remove it himself from the cockpit and throw it to the side of the circuit.

However, it ultimately prevented him from getting to the timing line for a final push lap and the error will be investigated after the session for an unsafe release.

Lando Norris was the shock early elimination of the session, after the British driver was knocked out in Q1, having had to abort his final qualifying lap due to the Esteban Ocon-induced yellow flags.
