Max Verstappen stormed to pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, getting the better of title rival Lewis Hamilton in qualifying at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Hamilton had led the way through practice but Verstappen and Red Bull came to the fore in qualifying. Making use of a tow from teammate Sergio Perez, Verstappen clocked a 1:22.109 to lead Hamilton by a comfortable four-tenths of a second.

Intriguingly, Verstappen will start the race on Soft tyres, with Hamilton opting for Mediums.

Lando Norris was a surprise third, closely followed by Perez, Carlos Sainz and Valtteri Bottas.
