Wolff reveals whether Mercedes will split strategies

Mercedes will start on the front row for Sunday's Portuguese GP with Valtteri Bottas on pole. Toto Wolff says the team has different race strategies for the Finn and teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff admits the team are looking to split strategies for Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton during Sunday's Portuguese Grand Prix. The Finn starts on pole with Hamilton finishing just 0.007s behind his teammate in qualifying. Mercedes sent both their drivers out on medium tyres at the end of Q3 yesterday, and Wolff admits that with so much uncertainty surrounding what the best tyre compound is to use around Portimao, expect the Silver Arrows to take different approaches fo the two drivers. "Yes, you need to because it isn't clear what the second tyre will be, whether it's the hard or the soft," Wolff told Sky Sports. "As a result we'll split the strategies."
