Wolff provides Hamilton contract update

Hamilton confirmed he would meet with Wolff on Monday [June 5] to discuss his Mercedes future.

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff believes contract talks with Lewis Hamilton will take 'half an hour over coffee' as the Silver Arrows look to confirm his future. The seven-time F1 World Champion's contract expires at the end of the season, with speculation rife over where he could land. Hamilton has been vocal in the past 18 months over wanting to remain with Mercedes for life given his association with the German manufacturer since the late 1990s. Wolff has been consistent in his view that contract talks would be a formality with Hamilton, though the lack of a deal thus far has led to concerns from the outside that the Briton could be on the move. Reports were quickly quashed surrounding a potential switch to Ferrari, before Mercedes introduced its radical upgrade package at the Monaco Grand Prix. The past two performances have provided a glimmer of hope that Mercedes can join Red Bull at the front of the field with further development having finished fourth and fifth in Monaco before securing a double podium at the Spanish Grand Prix. After his second-place finish at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Hamilton told media, including RacingNews365.com : "We are thinking of meeting with Toto tomorrow [Monday, June 5], so hopefully we can get something done." Speaking to Sky Sports F1 , Wolff added: "We just need to get time and sit over coffee. That will be half an hour."

Just another meeting

"We've had so many meetings. It's just another one of the meetings that we're having," insisted Hamilton. "It's always something that's at the back of your mind so once that's done, then you're able to then focus more and think about the future, but as I said I'm working as hard as I can with this team and I see so much strength within the team, I think they’re still so hungry. "On the podium, [it] was really, really, really special to be able to see them in the distance… I saw them at the back, they’re always at the back. "But to be able to see the excitement in all the people that I've worked with such a long time. And when we go back right now there'll be a great energy within the office but these guys, they'll take two seconds to enjoy themselves and be happy and then they'll be back down into the books and trying to figure out how we can win the next race so that's what I love about them."
