Wolff photograph fuels Hamilton replacement rumours

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has been pictured with former Benetton and Renault boss Flavio Briatore, fuelling rumours of a move for Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso.

Lewis Hamilton shocked F1 by announcing a move to Ferrari for next season, bringing an end to a career-long association with Mercedes at the end of the upcoming campaign. Alonso's name has been mentioned as a strong candidate to replace his former McLaren teammate, though he downplayed any talks with the Silver Arrows when speaking at Aston Martin's season launch. But a picture posted to Instagram by Briatore, who is Alonso's manager, shows him sharing a drink with Wolff. Is this the beginning of negotiations, or simply a friendly chat? View the photo below.
