Wolff doesn't know why Mercedes are so good in Spain

Mercedes have carried the strong form shown in Portugal to Spain after topping the timesheets in both practice sessions on Friday. Although Toto Wolff believes it was their best Friday of the year, he can't explain why.

After remarking that Friday was the team's best of the season, Toto Wolff isn't clear as to why Mercedes looked so comfortable in Spain. Their slow start to the season looks to be a thing of the past as Valtteri Bottas finished with the fastest time in the morning, while Lewis Hamilton topped the afternoon session. Perhaps more impressive was the significant gap the Silver Arrows finished the day with over rivals Red Bull, with Wolff stating they got more things right than wrong. "Good question," Wolff told RacingNews365.com and other members of the media when asked why Mercedes have started the weekend off well. "We don't know. "You're just working along and trying to understand your car and the days between the races are the ones where you analyse and tune the power unit and the chassis for the next race. "On the first day here in Barcelona we seem to have done more right than wrong." Despite their strong showing on Friday, Wolff is taking nothing for granted. "We're always skeptical," Wolff added. "We always think that we may be beaten and that pulls us along all the time."
