Toto Wolff has revealed how he felt when he first saw the photos and footage of Lewis Hamilton as a Ferrari F1 driver.
The Mercedes team principal compared the experience to seeing an ex-partner with their new flame after an amicable "divorce".
Hamilton spent 12 seasons alongside the Austrian at the Brackley-based squad, building the team and the British driver into the most successful partnership in F1 history, delivering six drivers' championships and eight constructors' titles.
However, the 40-year-old opted for pastures new in Maranello for the 2025 F1 season.
After signing on the dotted line with Ferrari 12 months ago, the first images of the seven-time F1 drivers' champion went viral on social media last week.
It is, therefore, no surprise that his former boss also saw the pictures and videos of Hamilton driving a Ferrari for the first time.
"It's a little bit like you divorce amicably, and it's all good, and then you see your partner for the first time with a new friend!" Wolff told Sky Sports News.
The 53-year-old was nonetheless pleased for Hamilton, speaking to how he reached out to the 105-time grand prix winner to tell him what he thought of the photos, underlining the strong relationship the pair still enjoy.
"But I'm really happy for him," added Wolff. "And I told him that those pictures that he made were iconic.
"It was so well curated, and no surprise with Lewis."
