Toto Wolff is looking forward to seeing Mick Schumacher make his Mercedes Formula 1 track debut, an experience that he believes will "help" the young driver. It was recently revealed that Schumacher will get behind the wheel of the W14 for the first time as part of a Pirelli tyre test held in the days after the Spanish Grand Prix, with the German due to drive the car on Wednesday. Schumacher has so far only tested in the simulator for Mercedes, and is also on standby at race weekends should he be called upon in his reserve driver capacity. Wolff is pleased with how the former Haas driver has performed so far since joining the squad, and feels confident that getting his first on-track experience with the team will benefit him further.
Wolff looking forward to Schumacher track debut
"After the Grand Prix weekend, Mick will also get his first real-world taste of the W14 on the second day of the Pirelli tyre test," Wolff explained as he previewed the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix. "He has done a great job with the team so far, working hard back in the simulator and giving valuable input trackside. "We're looking forward to him getting his first taste of on-track running this year, and sure it will help him in his role as reserve driver." Schumacher previously raced for Haas in 2021 and 2022 before being replaced by Nico Hulkenberg for the 2023 campaign.
