Logan Sargeant admits that his Free Practice 1 debut at the United States Grand Prix was "different" to what he had expected. The Formula 2 driver got behind the wheel of Nicholas Latifi's Williams for the opening session at the Circuit of the Americas, joining three other rookies – Alex Palou for McLaren, Theo Pourchaire for Alfa Romeo and Robert Shwartzman in the Ferrari – making their FP1 debut. Sargeant recorded 23 laps during the hour, and felt that he achieved his target of learning as much as he could. "The main goal coming into today was to learn as much as possible and I feel like I did pick up on a lot," the American driver said.
Sargeant reflects on FP1 debut at US GP
Sargeant was left surprised by just how different the Formula 1 car felt to his usual F2 machinery. "It was very different to what I honestly expected but in a good way," the 21-year-old explained. "The way that the car reacts compared to what I'm used to in Formula 2 is massively different. Super reactive in the high-speed and so good on the brakes. "A lot of potential to still pick up on and improve on, but I think it was a good start and happy with how it went. "A massive thank you to Williams and Dorilton Motor Sports for their support and the opportunity today."
Williams praise Sargeant for performance
Dave Robson, Head of Vehicle Performance at Williams, had some words of praise for Sargeant after his performance in FP1. "Logan did a good job today and was able to build on the running he did in Abu Dhabi last year and on the simulator sessions that he has done since," Robson commented. "He didn’t make any mistakes today, drove well and had some good feedback for the engineers." Sargeant currently sits third in the Formula 2 standings ahead of the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
