Williams' Head of Vehicle Performance Dave Robson has hailed the impact James Vowles has had on the team since joining as Team Principal. After finishing bottom of the Constructors' Championship in 2022, Williams parted ways with then-Team Principal Jost Capito and Technical Director FX Demaison. Vowles moved over from Mercedes, where he had served as Strategy Director, and the Williams role is his first Team Principal posting. Despite his inexperience, Vowles has already overseen an improvement in results, with Williams currently sitting seventh in the 2023 Constructors' standings with 11 points, three more than the team managed across the whole of 2022. Speaking to F1.com , Robson paid tribute to Vowles' positive influence and the direction he had given to the team. "James has brought a wealth of experience and knowledge, and a whole new approach which is really starting to spread around the factory," said Robson. "I think that's probably gone hand in hand with [driver] Alex [Albon] maturing and becoming quite calm and consistent, level-headed, and James brings something similar. "He obviously also brings clear knowledge of [Mercedes], and it really feels like we've now got a clear plan for the next few years. "That's very much rooted in recent top-level experience, and now we're just going to put that into action. But in the short term, the whole atmosphere is new, and it's refreshed."
