Williams has been fined following third practice ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, following a remarkable error by Carlos Sainz. The Grove-based team received a €1,000 fine after Sainz was caught speeding in the pit lane, resulting in a breach of article 34.7 of the F1 sporting regulations. At the Suzuka Circuit, the pit lane speed limit is set at 80 km/h, with Sainz having exceeded this by 13.7 km/h. He is the second driver to have been caught speeding in the pit lane at Suzuka after Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli went over the speed limit in third practice. Sainz ended third practice in 11th on the timesheets, with the session having been disrupted once again by two circuit fires.
