Since Pierre Gasly left the Red Bull family for pastures new at Alpine in 2023, Yuki Tsunoda has systematically and clinically dispatched the three team-mates he has been paired with at AlphaTauri/RB. First came Nyck de Vries, who lasted just 10 rounds before being fired for Daniel Ricciardo, whose own F1 comeback was scuppered by injury. After the Australian was let go for Liam Lawson after the Singapore Grand Prix last term, Tsunoda was able to get the better of the New Zealander. Nevertheless, Tsunoda was snubbed in pursuit of a promotion to the main Red Bull team, with the Milton Keynes-based squad preferring Lawson to partner Max Verstappen. Now, as the team embarks on its first season known as Racing Bulls, will the Japanese driver go four for four by defeating rookie team-mate Isack Hadjar? Graduating to F1 off the back of a strong F2 campaign, where he finished runner-up to champion Gabriel Bortoleto, the Frenchman will hope to prove he has the pace and mettle to compete with Tsunoda, something that will no doubt be a formidable task for the 20-year-old.
