The status of the Formula 1 2023 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was been thrown into doubt owing to heavy rainfall in northern Italy, before the race was ultimately cancelled.
Several areas surrounding Imola are currently subject to intense rainfall, which has caused flooding, and the heavy rain is expected to continue until approximately Wednesday evening.
Sources present at Imola were told to leave the circuit on Tuesday, although this was believed to be a precautionary measure rather than due to any immediate risk.
The circuit remains closed until further notice, with images of the sodden paddock circulating online.
Shortly after 12pm UK time on Wednesday 17th May, Formula 1 issued a statement confirming that the Grand Prix had officially been cancelled owing to the worsening conditions in the region.
