Daniel Ricciardo is glad to be racing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya due to the familiarity of the track which he believes is what he needs to deliver a strong performance.
Ricciardo has scored points at all three F1 events in 2021 but has consistently been off the pace compared to teammate Lando Norris. The Australian was knocked out of Q1 for the first time in 18 months in Portimao and feels the Spanish GP has come at the right time.
"Normally this track is not one that you get excited for because in a normal year you have done 1000 laps of testing and then it's all too familiar," Ricciardo told RacingNews365.com and other select members of the press.
"But I think familiar is probably good right now for me with the car and to get into a circle which I know very well so I'm actually really looking forward to this one. With developments and all of that, it can set you up for the next few races for the teams that perform well."
This weekend's event is the first back to back of the 2021 F1 calendar following the Portuguese GP last Sunday. Ricciardo sees the quick turnaround as an opportunity to hit back after a tough weekend.
"I love back to backs," said Ricciardo. "I think if you have a good weekend then you kind of want to keep the momentum and if you don't have a good weekend, then you've got another chance for some redemption. So back to backs are always fun."
