Alpine has announced that Esteban Ocon will be leaving the team at the end of the 2024 F1 season, with his contract not being extended by the French outfit.
It had been speculated even prior to his collision with team-mate Pierre Gasly on the opening lap of the Monaco Grand Prix that Ocon and Alpine could be set to go separate ways, something which is now confirmed.
Whilst Gasly is also without a contract currently for 2025, Alpine do at least definitely have one seat to fill with Ocon leaving but who should the Enstone-based side hire?
A leading option is reserve driver and former F2 driver Jack Doohan, who has been working very closely with the team behind-the-scenes.
However, Alpine do also have Mick Schumacher on the books in its WEC programme, whilst drivers like Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas also need a deal for 2025.
Junior talent Victor Martins who is currently competing in F2 is another bright talent Alpine has in its academy, so could one Frenchman be replaced by another?
