Even though they still divide opinion among fans, Sprint races have been a big part of the Formula 1 calendar in the last three years. It was brought in with the purpose of adding more action throughout the weekend, getting rid of practice sessions in favour of actual racing on track. Initially the Sprint races decided the grid for the actual Grand Prix on Sunday, but a late regulation change this year sees it now standing alone as an independent event during the weekend. The Austrian Grand Prix will play host to the eighth race since its introduction at Silverstone in 2021, but which driver has scored the most points since? Unsurprisingly at the top of the leaderboard is Max Verstappen with 34 points, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. The Ferrari drivers capitalised on their pace last year to finish comfortably in the points regularly, however it is likely Leclerc would have been closer to Verstappen if he won at Austria had he not lost time exchanging positions with Sainz. Surprisingly seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton is sixth on the list, after his comeback through the field during the 2021 Brazilian GP Sprint. Fernando Alonso does not make the top 10 despite his impressive opening lap at Silverstone in 2021, when he gained six positions in the first couple of corners. Check out the top 10 list below.
