As is normally the case at Daytona, it is just a matter of time before The Big One hits. In the 2023 regular-season finale, it came on the final lap of Stage 2 as the field jostled for position to take the segment win. The #20 of Christopher Bell nudged teammate Ty Gibbs in the #54 Toyota Camry causing Gibbs to slide to the left, and tag the #12 Penske of Ryan Blaney. Blaney's Ford Mustang was spat into the outside wall of Turn 2 as the field wrecked behind them. A total of 16 cars were involved in the wreck, including the likes of Denny Hamlin, Austin Dillon, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson and Daytona 500 winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. While some were able to get going again, Blaney's night was ended after the vicious impact into the barrier. Chase Elliott - who must win the race to secure a Playoff spot - emerged unscathed.
