Formula 1 is set for a major technical overhaul in 2022. While the new technical regulations were supposed to be introduced for the 2021 season, the current pandemic and the ensuing hit to the team's finances forced the FIA's hand in delaying the introduction of these plans.
The cars which are set to look drastically different from the ones we see today were designed with the aim of improving the spectacle in mind. The introduction of 18-inch wheels, modified sidepods and a specially designed floor is supposed to boost on-track overtaking with these changes facilitating the ease at which a driver could follow the car in front.
A year and a half ago, the FIA along with Formula 1 designed a prototype of the car and tested it in Sauber's high-tech wind tunnel.
Luckily for us, the video was published and can be viewed below. It is important to note however that the car we see is not the final version of how the cars will look with several modifications especially to the front end also expected.
