Sebastian Vettel was left feeling that he "should have done better" after a collision with Mick Schumacher ended his race at the Miami Grand Prix. It was a difficult start to proceedings for Aston Martin on Sunday; despite Lance Stroll and Vettel qualifying in P10 and P13 respectively, both drivers had to start from the pit lane due to a technical problem relating to fuel temperature. Both were able to make progress in the race, and at certain stages looked to be in contention for points. But, whilst Stroll did eventually claim a point in P10, Vettel's race ended abruptly within laps of the finish following a clash with Schumacher. The incident was investigated by the stewards, but both Schumacher and Vettel escaped without a penalty as it was deemed that neither driver was wholly to blame.
Vettel feels that outcome was "a shame"
Reflecting on his race afterwards, Vettel admitted that it had been a challenging afternoon for him at the Miami International Autodrome. "It is a shame for this weekend to end in the way that it did and we should have done better," he explained in a statement from Aston Martin. "We had a fuel temperature issue before the race which meant that we started from the pit lane. "For the majority of the race I was stuck in traffic, it was quite difficult to overtake, and the DRS (Drag Reduction System) was not that effective. "When the Safety Car was deployed, we moved into the top 10, but Mick and I had contact, which cost both of us points."
Stroll also left frustrated after Miami
It was a similarly difficult day for Stroll, who had two run-ins with Kevin Magnussen during the latter stages of the race . "Overall a frustrating afternoon. It was a shame to start from the pit lane but once the race was underway we showed some reasonable pace today," the Canadian said. "It was quite difficult to overtake off-line, but we made good decisions and put ourselves in a position to finish inside the top 10 by pitting under the Safety Car. "I think more points could have been on the table, but a bad restart and contact with Kevin prevented that."
