At the end of the 2022 F1 campaign, Sebastian Vettel drew a curtain over his F1 career. It is now being reported that the German is seeking a comeback. Vettel spent his most successful years as a Red Bull driver, winning four titles with the Milton Keynes-based squad. The 37-year-old switched to Ferrari in 2015 in the hope of emulating his hero Michael Schumacher and win a title in red, but fell short of the goal. His final two seasons were spent at the Aston Martin squad before the German opted to call time after 15 years. The seasons spent at Aston Martin were a lot less successful than those at Red Bull and Ferrari as he clinched just one podium in his last two campaigns, albeit with a less competitive car than what he was accustomed to. However, after spending the last two years on the sidelines, F1 Insider reports Vettel is interested in picking up the helmet again. The report states Vettel has communicated he still feels fit enough for F1 and that he even attempted to secure an Audi seat during 2024. The German manufacturer has taken over the Sauber Group and will become a works team in 2026 with its own power unit. The same report details former team boss Andreas Seidl was not keen to sign Vettel, nor was current boss Mattia Binotto, who worked closely with Vettel at Ferrari. Audi instead invested in Vettel's compatriot Nico Hulkenberg, who makes the switch from Haas, and rookie Gabriel Bortoleto who enters the upcoming F1 season as the reigning Formula 2 champion.
