Verstappen unveils throwback helmet design for new F1 season

Max Verstappen has shared the helmet he will race for Red Bull with during the 2025 F1 season, which gets underway with testing in Bahrain later this month.

The Dutchman has opted to return to the first helmet design he used, when he starting out in karting. The look is based on his father's design.

Jos Verstappen raced in F1 from 1994 until 2001 and his helmet incorporated the red, white and blue from the Dutch flag.

At first glance, the helmet appears similar to the younger Verstappen's recent looks, but the 27-year-old did highlight some of the new detail during its unveiling.

The Red Bull driver will be in pursuit of a fifth-consecutive F1 drivers' championship in 2025. If he is able to secure that title, he will match Michael Schumacher's record-breaking run from 2000-04.

"This helmet design is basically similar to when I started racing, when I was four years old," Verstappen explains in the clip.

"It was based on my dad’s design and I’m definitely very proud of that. When I started racing, my dad’s helmet design was very important to me. That was the helmet I really liked and which I am very proud to wear.

"One of the small details are the red and blue lines, which represent the Dutch flag. I’ve tried to keep it as simple as possible, which I enjoy, with of course the lion on the top.

"It’s definitely, you could say, our family’s design. Some details have changed, but in general it’s back to the roots. I’m very happy with it."
