Max Verstappen believes that George Russell has the "potential" to be a future F1 World Champion. Like others on the grid including Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris, Verstappen previously raced against Russell on their way up the motorsport ranks. The Dutchman admits that he was always impressed by Russell's ability to be fast straight away.
Verstappen: It came naturally to Russell
"George is part of the generation with Lando and Charles and me that grew up together," Verstappen told the Daily Mail . "I raced against George a bit in karting, though he's a year younger. You could see straight away he was good. "It came naturally to him – he didn't need a lot of laps to be quick. "He could jump straight in and battle at the front."
Verstappen hails Russell's potential
While Verstappen is not close with Russell away from the track, the Red Bull driver has seen enough of the Briton's on-track skill to hail him as a potential title winner one day. "He has the potential to be a World Champion," Verstappen said. "I haven't spent too much time with him, but he is a good lad. "He has just moved to Monaco, so I may see more of him from now on."
