Verstappen relieved after win: It was hard to stay on track

Max Verstappen was pleased to have battled through tricky conditions to take victory in a chaotic Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen took his first win of the 2021 F1 season in challenging conditions at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and felt relieved to have kept his car on track. The Red Bull driver beat Lewis Hamilton to victory in a race packed with incident and mixed weather, and was understandably pleased with the end result. "It was very challenging out there, especially in the beginning it was very hard to stay on track to be honest,” Verstappen told Sky Sports F1 after the race. "It was very slippery. "I think we managed everything well." The race was red flagged following an incident between Valtteri Bottas and George Russell and Verstappen almost lost the car on the restart. "Then there was a little moment in my restart!” he admitted. "Luckily we didn't spin. "But everything else went really well today so very happy with that.”
