Max Verstappen has been nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award again in 2023, after winning his second Formula 1 title last season. The Dutchman has been nominated alongside footballers Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, tennis star Rafael Nadal, olympic athlete Armand Duplantis, and American basketball player Stephen Curry. Verstappen scooped the award last year, which has previously been won by F1 drivers Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. After 15 victories and seven poles on his way to securing the Drivers' and Constructors' titles for Red Bull in 2022, Verstappen has built on that dominance with two poles and victories already in 2023.
