After a stunning pole lap, Max Verstappen was full of compliments for his team and car as he put it on the front row in Bahrain. Verstappen has topped the time sheet during every session for the Bahrain Grand Prix, with Saturday's performance in qualifying putting him ahead of Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton. "We were already very strong here during the test days, but that of course gives no guarantees," Verstappen told Sky Sports. "This weekend the car is performing very well and it is a pleasure to drive. "With the changing wind it is not easy to set up the car here, but it went well in every part of qualifying. I am very happy with this pole position." Hamilton took second spot but was almost four tenths behind the Dutchman, with Verstappen looking forward to Sunday's race. "My first lap in Q3 wasn't great and I knew there was more in the car, you just never know how much," Verstappen added. "The balance was good and then you can push a little more, taking care not to overheat the rear tires. "The car is performing well in the short and long runs. Now we have to make sure we have a good start and a clean opening lap at the race."
