Vergne encourages Alonso to prove himself in Formula E

Jean-Eric Vergne found success in Formula E after his F1 career came to end, and the Frenchman hopes that Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso may one day do the same.

Jean-Eric Vergne believes that Fernando Alonso should try his hand at Formula E to prove that he is the best. Several former F1 drivers like Vergne have found success in the electric series after their Formula 1 careers came to an end, and the Frenchman thinks that it offers a fantastic opportunity for a driver to show their skill amongst a level playing field. "In Formula E everyone has the same car and the same chances of winning," Vergne told Mundo Deportivo. "If you think you are the best you should come to Formula E and try to beat us. "Fernando has achieved incredible things in his life in our sport and if he wanted to come to Formula E it would be great for everyone." Formula E boss Alejandro Agag have previously spoken of his desire to bring Alonso to the series one day. But with the Spaniard now back on the F1 grid with Alpine following two years spent in other categories of motorsport, it seems unlikely that this could be a possibility in the immediate future. Vergne joined Formula E in 2014 following three years in Formula 1 with the Toro Rosso team, and has since gone on to become the only driver to win the Formula E Championship twice. The Frenchman is grateful for the opportunity that the electric series has given him after the end of his time in F1. "Ah... it's clear that Formula E changed my life," Vergne explained. "It really helped me and I became a champion here. I have been successful, I became a two-time champion. "And it's not that I was champion of a small championship that nobody cares about. I was fortunate enough to come to Formula E, which became a very important championship for a lot of brands, with fans around the world and of great importance. Formula E definitely changed my career and my life forever."
