Frederic Vasseur has expressed his doubts over Toto Wolff's recent claim that Red Bull's RB19 is like a Formula 1 car racing a field of F2 machines.

After the Hungarian Grand Prix, in which Max Verstappen won by 33 seconds for Red Bull's record-breaking 12th successive win, Wolff suggested that the other teams were in F2 cars compared to the Red Bull.

Christian Horner responded by saying there was no "silver bullet" to Red Bull's success, with Vasseur also pointing out Mercedes had enjoyed a similar level of dominance when Wolff's comments were put to him.

Vasseur responds to Wolff

"Give him an F2 car and he will see!," Vasseur told media including RacingNews365.

"[Red Bull] are in front but I think the feeling is probably the same when Mercedes was in front a couple of years ago, and I won't go on this field.

"I think honestly that the most important thing is to be focused on yourself to try and get the best from what we have, to minimise mistakes, to do a better job, and then what will come, will come.

"But I am not sure it makes sense to make this kind of assumption.

"Everybody is improving, but the reality with the regulations and the cost cap is that we are improving much less than in the past.

"It means that when there is a gap, it is quite difficult to catch that up.

"[If you look] at the last four or five weekends, one time in Qualifying it was McLaren ahead, one time it was Mercedes, but we are all behind Red Bull, and at least in the race, they still have a huge gap."
