George Russell will be investigated by the United States Grand Prix race stewards for allegedly impeding Charles Leclerc during the Sprint Shootout.

The Mercedes driver was preparing his final flying lap attempt in SQ1 when being caught on the racing line on the exit of Turn 19, blocking Ferrari's Leclerc who was on a hot lap.

The Monegasque radioed his team and said: "And a penalty for Mr Russell."

If Russell is found guilty, any penalty would be applied to the Sprint later this evening.

Teammate Lewis Hamilton almost lost his front wing simultaneously after making contact with AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda, who had slowed on the racing line.
