We haven’t seen Nikita Mazepin get behind the steering wheel of an F1 yet, but already one team principal has voiced doubts over his qualities as a driver. Franz Tost, team principal at AlphaTauri, discussed F1’s three newest additions to the grid during a recent interview with German outlet Auto Motor und Sport. Alongside Alpha Tauri’s very own Yuki Tsunoda, Mick Schumacher and the aforementioned Mazepin were up for discussion too, though it's safe to say Tost was far less glowing about the latter. “Of course I could get brutal again and say you can’t make a tiger out of a cow! In the end, it always depends on how much brain a driver has and then switches on in the cockpit”, the Austrian remarked. “In my long time in motorsport, I have found that, in the end, only drivers who are intelligent and know why they are doing something will prevail." In spite of Tost’s criticism, all three rookies will start the season in Bahrain from scratch when the Formula 1 season gets underway on March 28.
