Top five richest F1 drivers of all time

F1 drivers are among the highest-paid athletes in the sporting world - but who are the richest among those who have raced on the grid?

It's no secret that F1 drivers are handsomely paid, and the highest earners rank at the top of many sporting lists when it comes to income. The current field of F1 drivers is among the highest paid in history, with the sport enjoying a massive growth in popularity. But who are the drivers that are the biggest earners in F1 history?  According to GQ Sports , the drivers below have raked in the most cash, leaving their net worth higher than the rest!

5. Kimi Raikkonen

Raikkonen departed the F1 grid at the end of the 2021 season but has a long and healthy career with the sport.  He won the world championship in 2007 and has enjoyed stints at some of the most prestigious teams. Known for his nonchalant attitude towards grand prix racing, Raikkonen was a fan favourite and sat as the most experienced driver in F1 history when he retired.  The Finn comes in at number five on this list - driving for illustrious squads and having such a long career pays out! Net worth: $168,000,000 / €161,000,000 / £134,000,000

4. Niki Lauda

Lauda has long been embedded in the history books of F1. A three-time world champion, Lauda spent his final years working with the highly successful Mercedes squad. Outside of F1, Lauda was heavily involved in the airline business, founding and managing three airlines. Widely regarded as one of the best F1 drivers of all time, Lauda was instrumental in the success of the Mercedes F1 team of the 2010s that won championships with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Net worth: $184,000,000 / €177,000,000 / £147,000,000

3. Fernando Alonso

He now sits as the most experienced driver in F1 history and does not look to be stopping anytime soon. At 43 years of age, Alonso is still powering along in F1 and picking up the healthy paychecks to go with it. Alonso is a two-time champion and is still hailed as one of the best talents on the current grid. The Aston Martin driver is currently contracted into 2026 when new regulations will come into play - perhaps offering a chance to end his F1 career on a high! Net worth: $239,000,000 / €230,000,000 / £191,000,000

2. Lewis Hamilton

With more wins, podiums and pole positions than any other driver, Hamilton is the most successful driver in F1 history. His seven world championships place him in the conversation of the sport's greatest ever - and his success sees him surge up the earnings list. Hamilton is embarking on a new career adventure in 2024 with Ferrari after calling time on his term with Mercedes. No doubt he will continue to rake in the cash as he looks to add an unprecedented eighth title to his name. Net worth: $263,000,000 / €252,000,000 / £209,000,000

1. Michael Schumacher

Topping this list by quite some margin is Schumacher, the driver looked up to by so many. Schumacher's run to 91 victories and seven F1 titles was unprecedented at the time. With his run of success and his iconic partnership with Ferrari, there is little doubt that Schumacher is the highest earner in the sport's history! Net worth: $554,000,000 / €532,000,000 / £442,000,000
